CTC 261 Labs and Projects

CTC 261-Hydraulics has a dedicated 2-hour lab time consisting of two laboratory experiments and one design project.

 The experimental labs will consist of two experimental labs (visualization, hydrostatics-old equip).   In addition modifications will be made to the hydrostatics lab.

The design project will consist of a one culvert replacement project.  You will work on your assigned team.

Culvert Replacement Design Project:

An existing map and stream profile can be found in brightspace (or handed out in class)

Evaluate the hydraulic adequacy of the culvert for a design discharge of 860 cfs and AHE (allowable headwater elevation) equal to the top of road (elevation 184.5’).  The computed tailwater depth is 3.9 feet, giving a tailwater elevation of 181.3 feet. 

Design a replacement culvert using flared wingwalls and a square edge entrance.   Multiple barrels will be required.

Include the following in a report/excel file/ or a poster.

·         Cover Sheet (title, date, names, manhours)

·         Introduction

·         Description of existing conditions and proposed culvert size

·         Cost Estimate Summary:
