Minecraft Legacy Console Edition is the umbrella term for all the various console editions of Minecraft
All versions were devloped by Mojang and 4J Studios, with 4J being the main brains behind console development

When making their version of Minecraft, 4J Stduios decided that their edition should introduce the game to people who are unfamiliar with it. At the time Minecraft did not really teach players about itself.
Their main solution was the "Tutorial World." An exclusive feature to Console Edition where there was a custom made world to teach players how to play the game.
This was done by building specific areas to explain specific aspects of the game. They also made tooltips appear on screen when interacting with something for the first time!
At every major update, Title Update (TU), they would make a new Tutorial World to reflect the new things in the game. There were 7 official completely unique worlds!
Console Edition Crafting
Console Edition had limted cursor movement since it used controller controlls, making manually moving items to the crafting table slots teadious. To get over this hurdle 4J put every item in the table and let you select the icon of what you wanted to craft if you had the appropriate materials
This idea of Click and Craft would later come to other editions as the "Craftimg Recipe Book"
Modern Day Crafting (Recipe Book Left)
Various Sheared Sheep
On Console Edition when a sheep was dyed and sheared it would keep that color like in the image to the right. On other additions it would turn white while it was sheared. This was added to Bedrock and recently to Java.
Also when two sheep of different color made a baby it could come out as a mix between the two! Also recently added to Java
Normal and Abnormal skins
On the left you can see some skins from the Star Wars skin pack. As you can see there are some normal looking skins like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. You may also notice some slightly smaller and bigger skins like R2-D2 and Chewbacca.
Console edition allowed for skins to be smaller or bigger than your avgerage skin, something Java still does not have to this day. Bedrock edition does have this but mostly in ways of cosmetics you can buy and put on your existing character.
Arguably the best exclusive features left on the Console Editions were the custom mini-games made by 4J Studios. We have in order:
On September 20th, 2017 the "Better Together Update" was released, discontinuing the Xbox One edition of the game in favor of something else, starting the fall of the Console Editions of Minecraft
20/9/17
21/6/18
On May 3rd, 2018 it was announced all other versions would get the "Update Aquadic" and no furhter updates after that (PS4 was the exception as Sony did not want to do cross-play with Microsoft at the time)

That something else's name was Minecraft Bedrock. As of 2026 all current and last-gen consoles have Bedrock Edition and so does Windows 10/11
Bedrock despite being out for almost 10 years still lacks or just recieved many features from Java and Console that they've had for years. For example:
Bedrock to this day lacks Custom Superflat Worlds (worlds that are completely flat and customizable)
In 2024 Bedrock got Hardcore mode (a gamemode where if you die once you lose your world forever). This has been on Java since 2011!
Technically a bug on Java/Console, but hasn't been fixed since 2012, but on Bedrock you can not build on the roof of the Nether! This would be really useful for farms and transportation
Ontop of lacking core features, Bedrock also lack an exterminator and hence has many bugs. This affliction has gave Bedrock the name "Bugrock"
Bugrock's most infamous bug is the "random death" bug. As the name suggests the player will randomly take damage and die. This is due to a de-sync issue and the game and client not agreeing where the player is. The player can't do anything besides die or quit.
This was meant to be fixed when hardcore came out but I wouldn't be talking about it if it was
Death Incarnet
On febuary 28th, 2026 the original source code for Legacy Console Edition was leaked online!
Console Edition started as a port of Java from 2013, around update 1.6. This made it easier to modify the source code for this new version
Almost immediately within the first couple days people where adding modern features to Console Edition and adding other content as well!
On March 2nd someone already got a working version of a very old popular mod, The Aether, working!
The curent main two modpacks aiming to update and improve Legacy Console are:
Simple Legacy
Re-Console
As of April thisis the current new age of Minecraft Console Editionm which I can't wait to see what it blossoms into!
The Aether Mod on PS3!
