Q. What type of equipment are the students trained to use in collision repair?
A.

Major equipment and tools students are trained to use:

  • S-21 Chief EZ liner frame machine
  • Chief universal measuring system
  • Chief computerized data system for unibody and frame specifications
  • Garmat down draft baking spray booth
  • Lincoln MIG welders
  • Oxyacetylene torches
  • Esab plasma Cutter
  • Dual post lifting systems
  • Dent out paintless dent repair system
  • Unispot dent repair system
  • SEM panel bonding system
  • Siphon and gravity feed spray guns
  • PPG primer and paint system
  • Fresh air respirator system
  • A wide variety of electric and pneumatic hand tools
Q. What are the criteria for a project to be able to be brought in for repairs?
A. The vehicle needs to be in good running order. The year of the vehicle should be1998 or newer. The customer is responsible to pay for all parts and materials used to repair vehicle. There are no time limits on how long a specific repair will take. The customer is required to sign a repair order stating that they are aware that the vehicle is being donated for learning purposes.
Q. Is there a waiting list that I can get on to have my car fixed?
A. No, there is not a waiting list. The instructor locates projects for students to fix that best meet academic requirements. Most of the cars students work on are student owned or are BOCES property. Customer work makes up a very small portion of what students work on because of time constraints and liability concerns.
Q. What is the pay range in this area for a collision repair technician?
A. $7.00 -15.00 per hour. Some technicians will eventually make more. Salary is based on experience and skill level.
